About Brother Knitting Machines and thier Manufacture Dates...

In this section you can find a lot of information on Brother Knitting Machines, starting with this page showing the chronological manufacture dates of these knitting machines, which should come into play when buying a machine and what price you are willing to pay.

These machines are no longer made so getting replacement parts, especially for the computerized machines is tough.  Even though an electronic or computerized machine was barely used, time is still ticking away on the computer and always ask how it was stored as dust and moisture are not a knitting machines friend.

The difference between a Brother 965 and a 965i  (any machine with an "i" after it) is that it can take a PPD and DAK Cable.

Brother is also known as KnitKing and CompuKnit.

Since Brother/KnitKing made so many different Punch Card Knitting Machines you can find information about them in the section "Brother PC Machines".

A WORD ABOUT the BROTHER CK35 KNITTING MACHINE

Brother also makes an industrial type knitting machine that you can use at home, it is the CK35 and will cost you at least $2,000 and as high as $5,000.  Unless you are going to do production knitting, there is no need for you to buy something of this size and caliber, but here is some information about it anyway.

This is a large machine in terms of space that it requires.  It almost always comes complete with its own Brother Motor Drive.  It is a standard guage (4.5mm) electronic knitting machine with 200 needles on the main bed and 200 on the ribber.  Both beds have extensions on each end.

It should include an automatic 6 color yarn changer capable of changing yarn colors on each side and almost always comes with the optional PPD"35" which is specific to the CK"35" (not to be confused with the PPD110 - 120). You can create your patterns and transfer them directly to the CK35 with an additional, removable PPD cartridge.  You can run DAK through the PPD.

This machine always comes with its own very heavy sturdy stand that bolts that machine to the floor and itself so there is no possibility of the clamps coming undone or the the machine falling over.  The Brother CK35 is ideal for any avid lover of knitting, or someone who wants to do production knitting.  Other accessories for this machine are:  disk drive, Knitleader, transfer carriage, intarsia carriage, foot pedal for motor, and garter carriage.

This is a very expensive, very LARGE knitting machine, not recommended for the novice or occasional hobby knitter.  It is considered a "Standard Commercial Knitting Machine".  When purchasing this machine, I recommend to get everything at one time so that you do not have to scout around for other items.  At the very least if you do buy a CK35 you should purchase a package deal that includes the Ribber - the Stand - 6 Color Yarn Changer that sits on both ends - PPD35 - Transfer Carriage - and Motor Drive Unit with Foot Pedal.

Just in case you want to get better idea of what this machine does, here is the manual:
