A Place for Knitting Machine Enthusiasts

I could not find out a lot of information about the TOYOTA brand, but here is all the information that I could find out about these Knitting Machines.  They first started to produce these knitting machines in the 1970’s and there were not that many different models produced.  This brand of knitting machine came in a  4.5mm and 9mm gauge. TOYOTA was also known as ELNA, hence accessories, manuals and parts are interchangeable.  Also, the  ELNA 2300 and TOYOTA 650 bulky 9mm machine is the same as the Silver Reed SK155 9mm gauge knitting machine.

For Information a YAHOO Group is dedicated to this brand of knitting machine:  https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/toyotaknitters/info

TOYOTA only has punch card knitting machines and no electrical/computerized models.  I do think that some are 12 stitch punch card knitting machines and some are 24 stitch. One thing that the Toyota brand is known for its Simulknit, a feature accessory added to the ribber which easily produces a single color backing on double jacquard fabric, not nearly as easily produced on most other knitting machines.

Also another interesting feature is some 24 stitch punchcard machines have added versatility with a 12 button selector which you may use to punch in any smaller pattern at will without using a punchcard. You can also combine this feature with the punchcards which definitely gives some very interesting choices.

From my research the only accessories for these machines is the K85 Pile Knitter, K82 Intarsia Carriage, a Bind Off Carriage, K56 Stitch Transfer Carriage, K747 Lace Carriage, K86 Yarn Color Changer for the KS950 and KS901, a  K81 Plating Unit and a K33A Knit Tracer (knit radar).  From what I have read the following TOYOTA knitting machines are the better models to purchase:  TOYOTA 901 and especially the TOYOTA 787.
It is also said, these machines are so well built, little can go wrong with them except for the occasional needle needing replacing.  Just as a side note, TOYOTA knitting machines usually come in two tone colors which I think make them a very pretty machine.

Pricing:  You should compare these knitting machines to
Brother punch card knitting machines,  which are anywhere from $250 - $500 with the ribber running $150 - $250, but can be more due to the high quality of this machine, but beware when buying a used machine to make sure it has been well taken care of.
