A Place for Knitting Machine Enthusiasts
This area is a list of after market knitting machine and knitting items that are helpful when making garments. They will either make knitting on a knitting machine easier or help with finishing your garment or item, for instance when you shape a sweater after you have finished knitting it up. I will never be able to list EVERY after market item as people create new items all the time, and some items cease to be made, but this a list of the popular after market knitting machine and knitting items.

THESE CAN BE A FOLD OUT BOARD OR SMALLER BOARDS THAT CAN ATTACH TO EACH OTHER WITH A GRID PRINTED ON THEM IN ORDER TO HELP YOU SIZE OUT AND BLOCK YOUR KNITTED ITEMS BEFORE STEAMING THEM INTO THEIR PROPER SHAPE. USED WITH BLOCKING WIRES. YOU CAN PURCHASE THEM PREMADE OR A KIT TO MAKE IT YOURSELF. I ALSO USE STYRA FOAM HEADS FOR HAT BLOCKING, ESPECIALLY IF I FELT, WHICH IS A LOT CHEAPER THAN THE HAT BLOCKS PICTURES ON THE RIGHT AT $250 EACH.

$5 - $15
THERE ARE A MANY TYPES OF AFTER MARKET OR ADDITIONAL WEIGHT HANGERS THAT YOU CAN PURCHASE FOR YOUT KNITTING MACHINE. UP TO A PERSONAL PREFERENCE AS TO WHICH ONES YOU LIKE BEST, BUT YOU NEED A LOT OF WEIGHT FOR SOME STITCHES, SUCH AS TUCK TO BE CORRECT.
FOR ME, DEPENDING ON WHAT I AM KNITTING, WILL DICTATE WHAT TYPE OF WEIGHT I USE AND THE TYPE OF STITCH I AM KNITTING.
$400 - $800
THESE ARE MOTORS THAT ATTACH TO THE CARRIAGE TO DO THE CARRIAGE PASSES FOR YOU. USUALLY THERE IS A LONG ROD THE SAME LENGTH OF THE KNITTING MACHINE THAT SITS ABOVE THE MAIN KNITTING BED AND THEN ATTACHES TO THE MAIN CARRAIGE. IT IS AN ELECTRICAL DEVICE, WITH OR WITHOUT A FOOT PEDAL.

THERE ARE ALL SORTA OF SCALES AND DRAWING AIDS OUT THERE THAT HELP YOU DRAW PATTERNS. THEY ARE USUALLY PLASTIC AND COME IN LINEAR OR CURVED SHAPES AND SIZES, I LOVE MY BENDABLE RULER, PICTURED IN BLUE.
ELNA PRESS and STEAMERS
$150 - $300
A STEAM IRON TYPE ITEM TO PRESS YORU KNITTED ITEMS INTO SHAPE. THERE ARE ALSO HAND HELD STEAMERS WITH LONG HOSES, THAT IS MY PREFERENCE AS WHEN STEAMING YOU REALLY DO NOT WANT THE IRON TO TOUCH YOUR KNITTING AS IT DESTROYS THE RELEIF PATTERN OF THE STITCHES. JUST AS A SIDE NOTE, THE HAND HELD STEAMER IS GREAT FOR PRESSING CLOTHES, GETTING WRINKLES OUT AND EVEN STEAMING YOUR CURTAINS. THIS IS THE TYPE I BOUGHT. A REALLY GOOD STEAM IRON IS ALSO A GREAT TOOL.
$15 PREVENTS LOOPS AND SNARLS, HOLD STRANDS OF YARN, TRICOT RODUCT.
NOT a KNOT$15
WARNS ABOUT SLUBS AND KNOTS AND FITS ON A YARN BREAK ROD, TRICOT PRODUCT.
DROP STITCH TOOL
$3 HELP PICKING UP DROPPED STITCHES.
FOR ME AN ESSENTIAL WHEN MACHINE KNITTING AS WHEN SPRAYD ON THE YARN BECOMES VERY SMOOTH AS IT IS BROUGHT DOWN INTO THE KNITTING NEEDLES. THE YARN SPRAY LUBRICATES THE YARN HENCE NO FRICTION, STATIC ELECTRICITY AND LESS CHANCE OF YOUR YARN HANGING UP SOMEWHERE.
HOLD-IT TOOL ELIMINATES LINES WHEN KNITTING 2 SIDES OF A GARMENT
YARN PLYER: www.customknitsmfg.net
Their Yarn Plyer is designed to be set up on the back side of your knitting table. It consists of two miniature tables with hollow tubes to set yarn cones over and to pull yarn string through. The unit on the floor has a vertical dowel in the center of it's table. This system virtually eliminates catching, tangling and cones tipping over. As can be seen in the picture, the yarn plies together as it unwinds from the cones. This unit does a very effective job of plying two or three strands of yarn together. The Guide and C-Clamp are also included along with very good directions for setting up.
CONE HOLDERS: www.customknitsmfg.net
Cone Holder is used to keep cones of yarn from tipping over while knitting. It provides a smooth flow of yarn from the cone to the knitting machine. These work the best if placed on the floor. A high density fiberboard type material is used for the construction of the base and 1/2" x 9" dowel is used for the cone support.
